Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has revealed he is happy about David de Gea’s failed transfer to Real Madrid as he believes it will harm Manchester United.
De Gea was all set to move to the Bernabeu on Monday night but the move collapsed as the paperwork was not sent in on time.
Madrid were considering an appeal but they have decided against the course of action and the keeper will now remain a Man United player for another season.
Carragher insisted the debacle will hurt United in the long run:
I'm happy DDG is staying his head won't be right, he'll go for free next summer & Man Utd haven't got 20 mil to panic with today.

Although it was quite enjoyable to see Madrid not get their way for once, Carragher has a point.
De Gea has been left in an extremely uncomfortable position at Old Trafford and it remains to be seen whether he will be accepted back in the fold by Louis van Gaal and the fans. He will be glad that there is an international break before United’s next game against Liverpool in a few weeks.
