Manchester United to make €36m bid for Bayer Leverkusen’s Hakan Calhanoglu?

Manchester United are set to make a €36m deadline day offer for Bayer Leverkusen attacking midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu, according to Beyaz TV.

Man United currently have players such as Juan Mata, Ander Herrera, Wayne Rooney and Memphis Depay who can all play in Calhanoglu’s position but it appears that Louis van Gaal is still keen on the 21-year-old.

Calhanoglu is widely regarded to be one of the most dangerous free-kick takers in the world and he is also said to be on Juventus’ radar.

United sold Javier Hernandez to Leverkusen recently and the transfer may give them an edge if they open negotiations.

Calhanoglu is a superb player but United are short on strikers and may be better served focusing their attentions on that area of the squad.

Hernandez is gone and James Wilson is supposedly set for a loan move to West Bromwich Albion.

Monaco’s Anthony Martial is expected to complete a move to Old Trafford today but it may end up being just him and Rooney as United’s only out-and-out strikers. Of course, it is very late to seal any transfers now but the hope is that there is a surprise or two before the window closes.
