New Manchester United signing Anthony Martial not worried about his £36m transfer fee

New Manchester United signing Anthony Martial has insisted he is not concerned by his £36m transfer fee.

Martial, who signed for Man United on deadline day, became the world’s most expensive teenager after switching Monaco for Manchester on a four-year deal.

The 19-year-old Frenchman is something of an unknown and his astronomical fee has been scrutinised by many.

However, Martial stressed that, above anything, he is more concerned about proving himself on the pitch as opposed to his fee.

“There’s been a lot of talk about my transfer but the most important thing will be on the pitch & to show people who I am. Football is football and my transfer changed nothing,” said Martial.

“You have to stay true to yourself and keep your head on your shoulders.”

Martial’s fee, something bound to persist as a topic of discussion, ought to be outside the 19-year-old’s scope of interest as he embarks on his journey at United.

After all, the hefty price of the striker comes as a result of Monaco upping their valuation of the player by £15m, purely because they were aware that United were desperate for the striker’s signature. Martial’s focus will be on hitting the ground running at Old Trafford, which is something supporters will demand as United’s attacking lineup continues to struggle.
