France coach Didier Deschamps believes Anthony Martial has the ability to succeed at Manchester United.
Martial became the most expensive teenager in world football when he signed for Man United on deadline day for a fee rumoured to be in the region of £36 million.
Deschamps, who believes in the player enough to have called him up to his France squad for important games against Portugal and Serbia, insisted that Martial will develop into a very good player.
“He [Martial] is a player with a huge potential – he’s just been called up by France! Everything has moved very fast for him since he left Lyon,” Deschamps said.
“Today’s transfer fees can be massive, but it’s less risky to invest in a young player than an older one.
“He’s signing for a massive club. He will be on another planet, in another galaxy! It’s up to him to continue his development and gain some time on the pitch.”
Martial was already having a week to remember having been called up to his first France squad before he heard about the interest from United, signed for the club and jetted back to international duty.
Martial will need to get his head around the big move to a new league in order to contribute to the United squad almost immediately. Given the players United lost in the window, Martial will be expected to play an important role this season. The youngster will have to develop as he plays and will not have the luxury of gaining experience in the U21s but if Deschamps is to be believed, he is capable of handling the pressure.
