Memphis Depay suffers defeat with Netherlands against Iceland

by Sam Peoples

Memphis Depay suffered another bad defeat with the Netherlands on Thursday night as they were beaten comfortably 1-0 by Iceland.

Netherlands had to play a lot of the game with ten men after Bruno Martins-Indi was sent off and it leaves them third in their Euro 2016 qualifier group.

Missing out on the tournament is now a real possibility for Memphis and that’s the last thing he’ll want because it was the 2014 World Cup where he really announced himself to the world.

Thanks to Netherlands going down to ten men, Memphis had to play in a number of positions and was even their lone front man at one stage but was unable to turn a few individual moments into anything meaningful:

Next up for Memphis, and Daley Blind of course, in the international break is a huge game against Turkey in three days time. If they lose that, then they may well miss out on a spot in Euro 2016.
