Tottenham Hotspur’s Hugo Lloris hints summer exit was on the cards amid Manchester United interest

Tottenham Hotspur keeper Hugo Lloris has hinted that he could have left White Hart Lane this summer amid rumoured interest from Manchester United.

Lloris was touted as a potential replacement for David de Gea earlier in the transfer window but the Spaniard ended up staying at Man United after his proposed move to Real Madrid broke down.

Along with Lloris, United were linked with Madrid’s Keylor Navas and Ajax’s Jasper Cillessen.

The Frenchman revealed he could have well left Tottenham but insisted he is happy to stay another year.

“A lot of things were said and written. There could have been a development there but the desired movement didn’t happen,” Lloris said.

“I have a lot of affection for Tottenham. I feel respected, I have a very good relationship with the staff and I’m ready to play the best season possible.”

Lloris is a superb keeper and he would have been a more than capable replacement for De Gea had he left. Fortunately, De Gea is staying at Old Trafford, although this is more down to paperwork mismanagement rather than any kind of resolve. Perhaps if De Gea leaves next summer then United will make a move for Lloris.
