Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian has been discussing his impressive start to life at Old Trafford.
The Italian has been one of Man United’s standout performers thus far this season, as part of a back four that has only shipped two goals in the league.
Darmian, who moved to Manchester from Torino in Italy, has arguably been the best of United’s new signings this year. He seems to have settled into life in the Premier League extremely quickly and early signs are promising that United have found themselves a long-term right-back.
Speaking to Corriere della Sera, Darmian said of his start to his United career: “The important thing for me is that even though I’m a foreigner, I settled in straight away at Manchester United, thanks also to my teammates and the staff who made me feel part of the group.”
United manager Louis van Gaal has sung the praises of Darmian and it is obvious that the defender is eager to give the Dutchman exactly what he wants.
He added: “I put myself at the disposal of the coach immediately, with the utmost effort and humility.
“I want to stay true to myself. I am someone who worked hard to get where I am today and I intend to continue doing that. Manchester United is a beginning and not the apex of my career.”
Darmian hasn’t been overawed by the move to United in the slightest. He looks like he belongs at the club and that’s a testament to his quality.
The fact he sees United as the beginning of his career is the perfect mindset because there have been plenty of players over the years who took their foot off the pedal after arriving at Old Trafford, as they felt they had arrived at the top.
Darmian doesn’t think in that way and with a growth mindset aimed at improving with United, the Italian could very well become one of the best buys the club has made in recent years.
