Manchester United hit back at Florentino Perez claims over David de Gea’s failed transfer to Real Madrid

Manchester United have hit back at claims from Real Madrid president Florentino Perez over the David De Gea transfer saga.

De Gea’s move to Madrid seemed all but complete earlier this week before it was revealed that the documents required for the transfer had not been submitted in time. Perez has since blamed Man United and Ed Woodward in particular for their ‘lack of experience,’ but United are not laying low.

Madrid submitted their first bid for De Gea on deadline day and felt the transfer would have gone through if not for United’s executives taking so long to send over paperwork.

However, it is clear that the club are not happy with Perez’s claims.

“The facts speak for themselves. The FA are prepared to back our case that documents were in on time,” A United spokesman said.

“We all like to blame others but if you let one slip through your fingers into the back of the net, then ultimately the culpability is yours.”

For once, Real Madrid have not got exactly what they want out of a transfer window and it seems that they, and Perez in particular, are not at all happy about how deadline day unfolded. Both clubs have been hell-bent on telling their own sides of the story in order to hold their own and we may never know what really happened. However, it is refreshing for United fans to see the club stand up to Madrid, a club who have always looked to get one up on the Reds.

From the sales of the likes of David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo on cut-price deals and the more recent sagas of David De Gea and Sergio Ramos, Madrid have always seemed to get their way with United. With De Gea staying at Old Trafford, at least for the time-being, United have got one up on Madrid.
