New Manchester United signing Anthony Martial came off the bench to make his international debut for France, in their 1-0 friendly win over Portugal.
The 19-year-old replaced Karim Benzema in the second half for his first ever senior appearance for his country and instantly displayed his electrifying pace.
Martial didn’t get the opportunity to prove his goalscoring prowess, however, as France looked to close the game out after Mathieu Valbuena’s free-kick gave them the lead.
His brief cameo gave Man United fans the chance to see their new signing in action and they will hope he can see more playing time before joining up with his new team ahead of United’s crucial clash with Liverpool at Old Trafford.
One thing to note from Martial’s cameo for France is the fact he played centrally and both on the right and left in a short space of time.
That versatility is something which would have attracted van Gaal to him and it gives United a much needed attacking option up front.
