James Wilson enjoys fantastic goalscoring debut for England U21s

Manchester United striker James Wilson scored the winner on his England U21s debut on Thursday.

After coming on as a second half-substitute, Wilson scored in the 70th minute to help his team to a 1-0 win over the USAs.

The 19-year-old is yet to make it into a match-day squad for Man United this season, despite starting a handful of games last year. With the Reds struggling for goals in the league thus far, it is a wonder why Wilson is still waiting for the opportunity to prove himself.

His goal for England was typical of what United fans have become accustomed to seeing at youth level for the club, a poacher’s finish from inside the six-yard box.

With United’s goalscoring crisis, it is a timely reminder to Louis Van Gaal of Wilson’s capabilities. Despite the signing of Anthony Martial from Monaco on deadline day, Wilson will be hoping for the chance to prove his worth at United.

After talk of the Englishman going on loan to West Brom on deadline day failed to materialise, Wilson can now focus on playing his way into the United first team. He offers something different with his electrifying pace and excellent positioning in the box, two things United have desperately missed this season.
