New Manchester United striker Anthony Martial might have only score nine goals since the start of 2014/15 but no other teenager has scored more than him.
Man United’s move for Martial has been causing plenty of conversation and debate given the reported fee of £36 million for a player who is just 19.
The transfer made Martial the most expensive teenager in football with United beating off competition from some of Europe’s talk clubs to sign the Frenchman.
With the Reds struggling for goals this season, Martial will bring an extra dimension to the attack with his explosive pace and power. There will be huge competition for places in United’s forward line, with Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata and Memphis Depay all seemingly first-choice starters.
Nine goals is not a huge return but for somebody so young, it’s a benchmark he can work off. He’ll be setting himself yearly goals to try and improve, so if he can reach 15 goals this season then he’ll be going in the right direction.
Martial will hope to get as much playing time as possible and will definitely want to improve on his goalscoring record from last season, as admirable as it was.
A goal tally in the double digits would definitely be a brilliant start to life at United, given the large number of games Louis Van Gaal‘s men will have this season. Martial is still young and has tons of potential and United fans will be hoping he can prove it during his time at Old Trafford.
