International round-up: Blind and Memphis suffer terrible defeat, Darmian keeps clean sheet

by Sam Peoples

Memphis Depay and Daley Blind both had a night to forget with the Netherlands after Turkey comprehensibly beat them 3-0 to leave them on the verge of missing out on a place at Euro 2016.

Blind was substituted as the game went on with Netherlands finding it very difficult to breaking down Turkey and Memphis had a frustrating night in attack.

That’s two defeats in the international break for Memphis and Blind which isn’t exactly the best preparation ahead of Liverpool on Saturday.

In better news Matteo Darmian played the full 90 minutes in Italy’s 1-0 win over Bulgaria. Another clean sheet for Manchester United’s right-back. Everything seems to be going right for him at the moment (touch wood that continues).

Marouane Fellaini personally had a quiet game in Belgium’s 1-0 win over Cyprus, a game which proved to be a big struggle for them.

Marc Wilmots admitted after the game that he didn’t want Belgium to play any long balls and because of that Fellaini found himself extremely isolated in attack. In the same game, Adnan Januzaj was an unused substitute.

On Monday night there are plenty more reds in action such as Bastian Schweinsteiger and Anthony Martial.
