Netherlands went through this international break with two disappointing defeats against Iceland and Turkey but that doesn’t tell the whole story for Memphis Depay.
The 21-year-old played out on the left wing against Turkey and although they lost 3-0 on the night, it certainly wasn’t for the lack of chances.
As this quick highlight video shows, on four separate occasions Memphis put in a magnificent cross, only for his team-mates to mess up their opportunities every time.
It’s excellent to see Memphis putting in such great deliveries but that was a really woeful show of finishing from a Netherlands side who finished third at the 2014 World Cup under Louis van Gaal only 12 months ago.

Ashley Young was excellent on the left wing last season but Memphis can match him for the quality of his crosses and has so much more to his game, which is precisely why van Gaal has opted to start the Dutchman over Young this year.
The problem for Memphis is that the finishing isn’t much better at United isn’t much better at the moment. If he can start delivering crosses like this on a consistent basis, just like he did for Marouane Fellaini‘s goal against Club Brugge, it’s only a matter of time before plenty of goals come from them.
