David de Gea ready for Manchester United return

by Ben Topliss

Manchester United keeper David de Gea has insisted he is “enjoying football” as he prepares to return to Old Trafford.

De Gea was all set for a move to Real Madrid on the last day of the Spanish transfer window but the deal collapsed as the paperwork was not submitted on time.

The player is yet to make a single appearance for Man United this term but he kept a clean sheet in Spain’s 1-0 win over Macedonia on Tuesday.

De Gea revealed he is ready to play for United again and that he is “calm” about his future.

“I felt good out there. The coach has given me confidence. I am just happy to have played. I wanted to play. I am very grateful to my teammates who have been superb, and to the manager,” De Gea said.

“Now we need to continue to work and let’s see if I’m also lucky in my club. My future is going to be the same as it is now. I’m calm, will continue to work and improve. In conclusion, I’m enjoying football. I’m happy.”

De Gea may well be ‘calm’ publicly but there is no doubt that he would have been furious with the failed transfer to Madrid. Regardless, there is nothing he can do about it now and he will likely be involved against Liverpool this weekend.
