Liverpool could be without six players for Manchester United clash

by Ben Topliss

Liverpool could be without six first-team players for the game against Manchester United this weekend, according to reports.

Philippe Coutinho is suspended for the game having been sent off against West Ham United last time out, while the clash will come too soon for Daniel Sturridge, who is still recovering from a long-term injury.

Meanwhile, Christian Benteke, Jordan Henderson, Adam Lallana and Joe Allen are all doubts due to various knocks.

The absence of Coutinho and Benteke, in particular, could give United a huge boost ahead of the clash.

Danny Ings is likely to start if Benteke is injured but Chris Smalling and Daley Blind will be confident of nullifying his threat.

Meanwhile, Michael Carrick is a doubt for United after he pulled out of the England squad to face Switzerland earlier in the international break.

United will have no excuses if all six Liverpool players miss the game. The hope is that Louis van Gaal’s side can register a convincing victory in order to kick start their Premier League season, which has been mediocre so far.
