Paris Saint-Germain defender Thiago Silva believes Manchester United are contenders to win the Champions League following a summer of spending.
Silva insisted United have a good chance of progressing far in Europe’s elite competition.
“For the Champions League, I reckon it can be our year. And then Real, Barca, Bayern but also keep an eye on City and United, against whom I always lost when I was at Milan.” he said.
The PSG skipper also opened up about the controversial transfer of Anthony Martial from Monaco to United.
The 19-year-old’s £36m move on deadline day raised eyebrows all across Europe. Silva has seen Martial at close quarters in Ligue 1 and gave his opinion on the big money signing.
He added: “Are the fees too much? On the edge of madness. I don’t know whether it is right or not but Martial really reminds me of Thierry Henry for his technique, physique and reading of the game.”
The comparisons with Henry, an Arsenal legend, seem to keep popping up when Martial’s name is mentioned and United fans will find it hard for this not to excite them. There is no doubt the Frenchman accomplished great things while at the North London club and if the Reds can get the same, or even similar, out of Martial, they will be delighted.
