David de Gea initiates Manchester United talks and is ready to sign new contract – report

David de Gea has initiated contract talks with Manchester United and is now ready to sign a new deal with the club.

Jorge Mendes, De Gea’s agent, was at Carrington on Thursday and multiple sources are now collectively reporting that De Gea contract talks have now started.

Sky Sports, Daily Mail and many others are all covering the De Gea news and it would represent a significant coup for Man United to hold onto the Spanish goalkeeper.

Real Madrid’s failed attempt to sign De Gea on transfer deadline day was the climax to a summer long saga which every Man United fan expected to end with him holding up his new Madrid shirt.

James Ducker from The Times has gone as far as to say that De Gea is on the verge of signing a new contract with United.

De Gea’s move to Real Madrid this summer looked like an inevitability. His silence spoke volumes of his desire to simply push the move through with minimal fuss rather than force it through like so many have, and that in turn led to the deadline day fiasco which saw his transfer collapse over late papers.

Keeping De Gea at United was the No.1 priority this summer. Now that has been achieved, the objective has moved towards getting him to sign a new deal and if widespread reports are to be achieved, that is something which Ed Woodward has already begun in earnest.
