Matteo Darmian has been named Manchester United’s Player of the Month for August which is richly deserved after his brilliant start at the club.
The Italian has settled into life immediately at Man United and only a few games into his career he looks very settled under Louis van Gaal.
Right-back has been a problem position for United ever since Gary Neville‘s decline. Although Rafael offered hope in the 2012/13 season, he was never able to find the consistency he needed but Darmian has shown that he has all the potential to become a fantastic long-term right-back in Manchester.
Up against the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Swansea, Darmian has shown great defensive qualities but it is his ability to add to the attack while not neglecting his duties in defence which has impressed Louis van Gaal and fans so much.

Darmian’s biggest test so far will undoubtedly come on Saturday against Liverpool because it will be an electric atmosphere under the lights at Old Trafford, but he seems to thrive on that added pressure rather than shy away from it.
While United have been graced with some big signings in recent years such as Angel di Maria, Radamel Falcao and Bastian Schweinsteiger, it is the ex-Torino right-back Darmian who has taken to life at United better than anybody could have imagined in such a short space of time.
There is a long road ahead for Darmian but if he can continue his early season form across the whole campaign, he’s going to be one of United’s most important players this year.
