David de Gea has signed a new four-year contract with Manchester United until 2019 with the option to extend it by a further year.
The Spaniard has penned the deal after what was an extremely difficult summer where he was constantly linked with a move to Real Madrid.
Keeping De Gea was the main priority this summer and it was fantastic that Man United managed to hold onto him. Now that a new deal has been negotiated, it puts United in a fantastic position going forward because it means he cannot leave on a free.
This is the first time that United have stood up to Real Madrid chasing one of their best players and have come out of it on top, so it’s a real testament to Ed Woodward for getting it over the line.
It might have been messy in how it all ended up being done but that is now in the past – De Gea has signed a new United deal.
