Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has claimed that David de Gea is “very close” to signing a new contract at Manchester United.
The move would represent a dramatic U-turn for the keeper, who was set for a move to Real Madrid on the last day of the Spanish transfer window before the deal fell through due to late paperwork.
De Gea is said to be unhappy about how the situation was handled and it appears he has had a change of heart over staying at Old Trafford.
Balague revealed that United will soon make an announcement regarding the new contract:

Of course, a cynic would point out that De Gea has simply been backed into a corner to sign a new deal as it would secure his position as United’s No.1 ahead of the European Championships next summer.
Even so, it would be in both parties best interests for him to renew. United would get a better fee if Madrid come back in for the player next year, while De Gea himself would earn more money ahead of claiming a starting spot in Spain’s team for Euro 2016. It’s safe to say that fans will be delighted if he does sign a new deal.
