Despite huge uncertainty over the goalkeeper’s future this summer, De Gea eventually put pen to paper on a new deal after a transfer to Real Madrid fell through.
Now that De Gea’s contract issues are sorted out, he will be eager to get back on the pitch and repay the fans for their support, despite him wanting to leave the club less than a fortnight ago.
Mendes confirmed that the 24-year-old is keen to get back on the pitch for United.
“David is the best goalkeeper in the world. He proved it in the last two years, being the best player of United. He is the best at the present and he still will be in the future.” he said.
With Liverpool due to visit Old Trafford on Saturday, United’s first game since De Gea’s contract renewal, Mendes’ comments will be music to the ears of supporters.
The agent added: “He is a hard working player, always improving and giving his best for United and he always will do. He is looking forward to getting back on the pitch in front of the amazing supporters that have always been great to David, in the same way he loves them.”
There is no doubt about De Gea’s ability, especially compared to the other options United have in goal. After starting for Spain in their 1-0 win over Macedonia, there should be no concerns over his fitness either and United fans will be hoping that Louis van Gaal reinstates his No.1 straight away.
