Luke Shaw has admitted that he feels better at Manchester United than he did at Southampton.
Shaw moved from Southampton to Man United last summer for a fee rumoured to be around £30m but his debut season at Old Trafford was blighted by injury.
However, some extra fitness work this summer has contributed to a blistering start to this campaign for the youngster and he has arguably been United’s most impressive player.
Shaw revealed the injuries last term knocked his confidence but that he feels much better about things this time around.
“Obviously last season was very difficult for me. I just feel fresh and fit and hopefully I can get a run of games now and keep my performances up,” he said.
“I trained before I went back to pre-season. That was a massive help to me and now I just want to keep on playing well. It was made hard with the injuries that I picked up. I didn’t expect that to happen as much as it did.
“I think that is what knocked my confidence down, I never got fully fit, so whenever I was playing, I wasn’t at my best and I didn’t feel at my best. Now I am playing and I feel great.
“To be honest I feel better than I did at Southampton. Game by game, I feel like I’m getting stronger, especially in training. I just want to keep it up now and pray there are no injuries.”
Shaw’s energy up and down the left flank for United this season has been nothing short of superb. Along with Matteo Darmian on the left, United finally look to finally have a reliable and consistent full-back partnership. At just 20 years old, the sky really is the limit in terms of what Shaw can achieve.
