David de Gea happy to be back for Manchester United

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea made his return to the starting lineup and got back to winning ways with a 3-1 victory over Liverpool.

De Gea was delighted with the win and thanked fans for their support after the game. Having signed a new four-year deal with Man United on Friday, the Old Trafford faithful welcomed their No.1 back in between the sticks.

The Spaniard had two difficult saves to make before he was ultimately beaten by Christian Benteke’s wonder goal. United fans were relieved to have their player of the season for the last two years back in the fold, given the transfer deadline day tussle with Real Madrid.

With De Gea now due to stay at United rather than move to the Spanish capital, the supporters at the Theatre of Dreams ensured he felt at home. Huge cheers followed when his name was read out by the stadium announcer and the 24-year-old put in a solid performance to help United to all three points.

De Gea had one of his best games of last season in the same fixture but was not troubled as often this time around as United found the game quite comfortable for the large majority.

The ex-Atletico man will now want to keep his place in the side ahead of Sergio Romero and make his first Champions League appearance of the season, when United travel to PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday.
