Arsenal legend Thierry Henry was full of praise for new Manchester United striker Anthony Martial and said he loved the finish from him against Liverpool.
Martial scored a brilliant third goal as Man United beat Liverpool 3-1, a strike reminiscent of some of the finished Henry himself scored for the Gunners.
Since signing for United, Martial has been compared to the former striker, due to the similar upbringing the two players had and their playing styles. The 19-year-old squared up Simon Mignolet before calmly slotting to the ‘keepers left, a trademark of Henry’s.
The former Barcelona man told Sky Sports after the game: “He stayed composed. I call it ‘freezing the keeper’ and he puts the ball in.
“I loved the finish. It’s a great finish. What a way to announce yourself.”
Since his high-profile transfer from AS Monaco, all of the talk about Martial has been about the fee United paid for him.
However, now that he has burst onto the scene in such spectacular fashion, everyone at United and the player in particular, will hope the focus can turn to his ability. Martial has already shown Old Trafford what he is capable of and he became an instant hero with his goal against the Merseysiders, so the early signs are definitely promising.
