Memphis Depay put in an inconsistent performance during Manchester United’s 3-1 win over Liverpool 3-1 at Old Trafford.
The Dutchman was hauled off at half-time by Louis van Gaal and was replaced by Ashley Young. Memphis struggled to beat Nathaniel Clyne at right-back for Liverpool and his final ball left much to be desired.
However, despite a poor performance, many Man United fans were disappointed to see the 21-year-old taken off, given the lack of pace in the Reds play in the first half.
Memphis could have been the one to provide the spark. That being said, van Gaal was eventually proved right, as United went on to score three goals in the second period.
Supporters made their feelings known regarding the handling of Memphis:
Memphis unlucky. Wasn't great but at least wanted to attack. Maybe that's why taken off! #mufc

Love LVG, BUT chance of Memphis scoring a goal is higher than Young.

Memphis was poor. Pinging aimless balls doesn't create anything https://t.co/PIFXUcoUrf

Good move. Memphis will succeed, just not today.

Same old – Memphis has picked up where he left off against Swansea; looks leggy and decision making poor, not moving the ball fast enough.

After Anthony Martial‘s electrifying debut, Memphis may start to feel the pressure for his place in the side. He has started every game so far this season but has been underwhelming of late.
United fans will be slightly concerned by the form shown by their new winger but he’s still 21 and they know there is much more to come from Memphis.
