Andreas Pereira has returned to Manchester United’s travelling squad for PSV having missed the weekend’s game against Liverpool through injury.
The 19-year-old returned from international duty with Brazil’s U23s squad with an injury but it looks like it was nothing too serious at all as he is already fit enough to be available for selection.
Louis van Gaal revealed his intention to use Pereira in Adnan Januzaj‘s position in the squad following his move to Borussia Dortmund, so the last thing he wants is to be sidelined this season at any stage and he’ll be delighted to have travelled with United over to the Netherlands.
You get the feeling this is going to be a very big year for Pereira at United. After breaking through to join regular first-team training sessions last year under van Gaal, he went on to make his senior debut against Tottenham Hotspur and was named on the bench on a number of occasions.
He carried that development into the U20s World Cup with Brazil where he finished runner-up (and scored a wonderful goal in the final) and has subsequently been called up to Brazil’s U23s squad ahead of the 2016 Olympics.
Pereira’s got bags of potential and has really developed his game well under the tutelage of van Gaal. Not every player thrives with his rigid style of management but Pereira seems to be taking to it very well.
It will be interesting to see how big a part he’ll play over the course of the season but Pereira will hopefully be making more than a few appearances.
