“Avoid delays”: Perfectly timed David de Gea photo mocks Real Madrid’s failed transfer

by Sam Peoples

Real Madrid’s failed pursuit of David de Gea left plenty of smiles on the faces of Manchester United fans this summer.

Now, thanks to this perfectly timed photo, those smiles may well have burst into hearty laughter.

“Avoid delays” read a sign in Manchester Airport as a smiling De Gea walked past a photographer. After his move to Madrid failed simply because of his papers being delayed, it’s the perfect visualisation of it in one swoop.

Fair play to the photographer. He probably sat at that spot and waited for De Gea to walk past. That’s commitment.

Madrid’s delays has certainly cost them dearly because De Gea has now signed a new deal at Man United, meaning they will have to pay a phenomenal fee if they want to sign him in the summer.

If Anthony Martial can be worth £36m, then what will De Gea be worth in the current transfer market with a new four-year contract behind him? Your guess is as good as ours but it would certainly be a world record fee for a goalkeeper.
