PSV Eindhoven’s Hector Moreno has apologised after making the tackle which broke Luke Shaw’s leg in two places.
Manchester United defender Shaw suffered a double fracture in his right leg after being on the receiving end of a crunching challenge from Moreno early on in the game.
It was a terrible moment for the youngster, who had started the season brilliantly having put in some extra fitness work over the summer.
Moreno broke his leg at the World Cup last year and he apologised to Shaw following the game.
“I just feel really bad because I was involved in the accident. I feel really sorry,” Moreno said.
“I think I played the ball, but in this kind of situation I don’t care if it was a foul. I feel bad for him, for his family.”
Moreno received no punishment for the tackle and UEFA will take no further action following the incident. Supporters can argue about whether or not Moreno should be punished all day long but it will not change the fact that Shaw will be out of action for a number of months. It is devastating for the youngster but he is a positive character and he will no doubt come back stronger.
