PSV Eindhoven fans sent Manchester United defender Luke Shaw flowers to his hospital bed following the youngster’s injury sustained at the Philips Stadion.
Shaw suffered a double broken leg against PSV in the Champions League and the opposition fans were very respectful to the left-back, both on and off the pitch.
The Englishman was treated on the field for the best part of eight minutes, before receiving a warm round of applause from all at the stadium.
A spokesman for the club said: “This is the way how you deal in professional football with an opponent.”
Man United were unfortunate to lose 2-1 on the night and will now have their work cut out for them if they are to progress to the knockout stages of the Champions League.
PSV Primeuer.nl went on to say PSV sent their regards to United about Shaw: “The management of PSV sought Wednesday itself contact with Manchester United to show once again the situation around Shaw enormously regrettable.”
United now have to try and put Shaw’s injury to the back of their minds as they focus on the trip to Southampton on Sunday. They will be hoping they can bounce back from the defeat in Eindhoven and will want to start with a good performance at St.Mary’s.
