Ander Herrera: Anthony Martial adds a new dimension to Manchester United’s attack

Ander Herrera believes Anthony Martial has added a new dimension to Manchester United’s attack.

Martial was brought to Old Trafford in a surprise deal worth at least £36m on deadline day.

He made a blistering start to life at Man United with a debut goal against Liverpool and he impressed in the 2-1 defeat against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.

Herrera praised Martial and insisted he can make the difference for United this season.

“Of course, the language is new for him, as it was for me last season. But Morgan [Schneiderlin] and Felli [Marouane Fellaini] are helping him a lot,” Herrera said.

“I think he is a player who has some qualities that the rest haven’t got. So I think he can run into the spaces when the midfielders look forward. We are always going to find him because he’s very quick, very mobile, so I think he is a very good player for us and is going to give us different options.”

Martial is far from the finished article but Herrera is right in saying that he brings something different to United’s play. The only other option, in the absence of Wayne Rooney, seems to be lumping it up to Marouane Fellaini and it’s safe to say that is not an option United supporters want to see. While Martial will need time before he fully realises his potential, he has made an excellent start.
