Shaw suffered a double broken leg against the Dutch champions and the replays of the injury made for graphic viewing. Herrera admitted he and the rest of the team were ‘proud’ of Shaw and they are all backing him during his recovery.
The Spaniard had a quiet game as Man United fell 2-1 to PSV in their first UEFA Champions League game of the season. The injury to Shaw could have affected the result but Herrera chose not to blame the incident for the loss.
Speaking to Talksport, he said: “I couldn’t see the leg in the game because sometimes when I watch these kind of things I don’t feel too good.”
“Luke makes us feel proud for him and very hopeful in his recovery. He is already getting stronger and thinking about the recovery – he doesn’t want to complain anymore, he wants to think about the next step.
“I think he’s a very happy guy, he’s always smiling and laughing so it makes us feel because we know he is going to recover very quick.”
United must now put Shaw’s injury to the back of their minds, as they return to Premier League action with a visit to Southampton. With Wayne Rooney fit again and Anthony Martial‘s impressive start to life at Old Trafford, Herrera will be hoping to keep his place in the United lineup.
The 26-year-old has had a good start to the season and will want the opportunity to go from strength to strength against the Saints on Sunday.
