Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera is happy to be deployed in a variety of roles for the Reds but is also focused on breaking through into the Spain squad.

Herrera has played in a holding midfield role as well as the No.10 for Louis van Gaal this season and he feels that his flexibility is a good thing for both club and country.

The Spaniard made it abundantly clear that his next goal is to represent his country. Herrera is yet to be awarded his first international cap but he thinks his performances for his club put him in contention.

Speaking to Talksport, Herrera said: “I think if I play in different positions it is good also for the manager of the national team because he can select me for different positions.

“It is my next step. When you arrive at United, maybe the biggest team in the world, you are fighting on all fronts, so the next step is the national team and it is my next dream.”

Herrera also admitted to being satisfied with his start to life at Man United, since joining from Athletic Bilbao in the summer of 2014.

He added: “I think I did a good first season, my first in England and at Manchester United and I was happy with my development.

“Now I am doing the same, trying to give my best and trying to convince the manager of the national team that I have the quality to be there. I believe in myself and that I have the quality to do it.”

Herrera has quickly become a fans’ favourite at Old Trafford. His passion for the club is there for everyone to see and his performances have been eye-catching. His goal against Liverpool simply upped his billing amongst the supporters and they all believe he has earned his opportunity to represent Spain.
