Man United were playing against his former club Southampton which makes the win even more poignant for Shaw, who was watching from his hospital bed.
Speaking after the game, Mata said: “We’re very sorry for Shaw. What happened to him is unlucky but he knows we’re with him. This win is for Shaw.”
It’s a great touch from United and Mata to dedicate the win to Shaw and he clearly appreciated it:

Marcos Rojo played OK at left-back but United really missed Shaw’s energy levels down the left flank. His overlapping runs past Memphis Depay had become a real focal point for United this season but we’ll have to cope without them for at least the next six months.
