Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed he looked into the possibility of signing Mario Balotelli before he moved to Manchester City.
The Italian striker went on to bag a few goals for City but he caused far more problems than he was worth and has done so at every club throughout his career to date.
Thankfully, Sir Alex’s scouts let him know that Balotelli just simply wasn’t worth the risk and nothing materialised.
“The feedback I got confirmed it was too big a risk,” Ferguson wrote in his new book ‘Leading’.
“It was a godsend.”
United have had a few maverick characters over the years but Balotelli is far more hassle than he is worth. Unlike Eric Cantona, he didn’t have the determination to back-up his inflated ego which, more often than not, made him look foolish.
Back in the summer of 2010, United signed a Mexican striker who was unknown at the time called Javier Hernandez and we all know how that transfer turned out don’t we? It certainly was a godsend that Balotelli never moved to Old Trafford.
