Louis van Gaal has admitted he does not know much about Manchester United’s next opponent in the Capital One Cup, Middlesbrough.
Man United were drawn against the Championship club in round four of the competition after cruising to a 3-0 victory over Ipswich Town at Old Trafford.
Boro themselves won by the same scoreline, beating Wolverhampton Wanderers to secure their path into the fourth round. They finished fourth in the Championship last season and will almost certainly provide a stern test for van Gaal’s men when they visit the Theatre of Dreams.
However, van Gaal will rely on his scout to learn more about the club from the North East.
“It is a top club in the Championship. I don’t know much about them. The scout shall analyse the opponents like he did with Ipswich,” van Gaal said.
“It is one of the top clubs so it is not so easy.”
The Dutchman also expressed his delight over beating Ipswich and getting another home draw in the next round.
He added: “I am very happy with the result. I am happy we are playing at home. We are travelling a lot so it is good to stay at home.”
Van Gaal will need to put the Capital One Cup to the back of his mind for the time being, as his side host Sunderland on Saturday in a crucial Premier League matchup. United will be desperate for all three points to keep the pressure on Manchester City at the top of the table.
