Anthony Martial will become the first Manchester United player to score in his first three Premier League appearances if he can find the back of the net against Sunderland on Saturday.
The 19-year-old opened up his Premier League account against Liverpool and followed it up with a brace away at Southampton, as well as another confident goal last night in the Capital One Cup against Ipswich Town, so he is bang in form.
A home tie with Sunderland is a game where Man United will be heavy favourites as the North East club are really struggling right now and come into the game off the back of a humiliating 4-1 defeat to Manchester City. The Sunderland Echo went as far as to call it a ‘defensive horror show’, so Martial should be rubbing his hands together because he has looked so dangerous in every game he’s played.
We keep going on about it but the hype around Martial is engrossing and very difficult not to be caught up in. The fact he could become United’s first ever player in the Premier League to score in his first three consecutive games shows how hard it is to be that consistent so early on but he just makes it look easy, like he’s done it all before.
Martial would probably be disappointed with himself if he failed to score against a shaky Sunderland defence and that as well would be a measure of his character. He’s got a long road ahead of him but his flawless finishing so far has filled fans with confidence that he can continue to do it with almost every chance he gets.
