Barcelona striker Neymar has revealed there were talks with Manchester United this summer over a potential transfer but insists he was never informed of an offer.
Man United were linked with seemingly every striker under the sun during the summer including Neymar but questions were asked as to whether the interest was ever genuine.
Neymar has now confirmed talks were held. Of course, nothing ever materialised but it’s clear Ed Woodward and Louis van Gaal were serious about their interest.
“We had conversations, but there was nothing concrete,” he admitted.
“I heard that there were offers, but none made it to me.”
Like Thomas Muller at Bayern Munich, trying to poach Neymar from Barcelona was always a long shot but van Gaal made it clear he only wanted top level players who improves his team. Looking at it from that perspective, interest in Neymar was logical.
As it panned out, Anthony Martial became the striker who United brought in and with four goals in four games, the Frenchman is proving to be an incredible signing.
Don’t be surprised if United go back again next summer for Neymar because although the Brazilian is one of Barcelona’s prized assets, he’s not unsellable like Lionel Messi.
