Predicted XI and Formation: Manchester United vs Sunderland

by Sam Peoples

David de Gea – Should hopefully not be too busy against a Sunderland side that are likely to sit very deep.

Ashley Young – Manchester United’s best choice at left-back right now.

Daley Blind – Hopefully Louis van Gaal doesn’t move him to left-back and allows him to continue in the centre.

Chris Smalling – Man United’s rock in defence.

Matteo Darmian – Rested against Ipswich Town and he really needed that as fatigue crept into his game at Southampton.

Bastian Schweinsteiger – Commanding in midweek, Schweinsteiger is really growing in influence at United.

Morgan Schneiderlin – Although he has been rested in recent games, Schneiderlin is still first choice in midfield.

Juan Mata – Needs to drift centrally more from the right-wing to be truly effective.

Memphis Depay – Still searching for that elusive first Premier League goal.

Wayne Rooney – Scored against Ipswich, so have the floodgates opened?

Anthony MartialThe man of the moment can break a record by scoring in his first three Premier League appearances for United.

Formation: 4-2-3-1 – With the midfielders United have got right now, this formation gets the most out of them in their correct positions.
