Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata shines in Sunderland victory

by Ben Topliss

Juan Mata put in a superb performance in Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Sunderland on Saturday.

The Spaniard helped Man United break the deadlock following a frustrating start to the game when he squared Daley Blind’s long ball before Memphis Depay tapped in.

Mata then sealed the victory with a strike late on after Wayne Rooney had previously doubled United’s advantage.

There had been suggestions that Mata’s place in the starting XI may be under threat after the summer arrivals of Memphis and Anthony Martial but the 27-year-old has only gotten better since the start of the campaign. His statistics against Sunderland made for excellent reading:

Juan Mata 45

4 shots
92% passing
1 chance created
3 crosses
1 goal

Mata’s performances have been nothing short of exceptional as of late.

Juan Mata 28

He is consistently proving to be an integral part of the side having taken to the right wing with complete ease. Mata’s goals and assists contribution goes under the radar somewhat but his teammates will be fully appreciative of what he does for the side. Long may it continue.
