Martial lead the line for Man United in their 3-0 win over Sunderland and played the centre forward’s role superbly. He held the ball up very well and helped to get all the other players around him involved.
The Frenchman also notched the assist for Rooney’s goal, helping his skipper break his much talked-about goal drought. It was almost the perfect performance from Martial even without scoring and Rooney gave him the recognition he deserved.
Speaking to MUTV after the game, Rooney said: “He’s been incredible. He’s a young lad, we have to remember that.
“I think he’ll be a big player for us this season and in the future but we need to let him enjoy his football and I’m sure he’ll have magic moments for us.”
Martial already has four goals to his name, just over a fortnight since playing his first game for United. He has started the sides last two games and is beginning to look like being a crucial part of the squad.
Still only 19, Louis van Gaal admitted that Martial was bought for his ‘successor.’ However, given the youngsters performances thus far, it seems almost impossible for van Gaal to drop him. Martial has provided that extra bit of dynamism that united were crying out for and the performances have improved as a result.
