Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has revealed that he always wanted a move to Old Trafford if the dream of a Premier League transfer ever came to fruition.
The 31-year-old made the move to Manchester from his boyhood club Bayern Munich in the summer, citing the need for a new challenge as one of his motives.
Schweinsteiger has started his Man United career superbly and is quickly becoming a crucial part of the squad. The German has commanded the midfield in every game he has played, giving United something they have been missing since Paul Scholes’ retirement.
Schweinsteiger gave Manutd.com the reasoning behind his move from the German champions: “I’m at a stage where I won everything in Germany and it was the right moment to make a move and come here.
“I was very happy when I got the offer from Manchester United. I always had in my head the dream that if I’m going to play in the Premier League it would be for Manchester United with the tradition and the philosophy.”
Schweinsteiger is evidently delighted to be at United and is looking forward to his time at Old Trafford.
He continued: “I’m very happy that at the end of the day I’m here. It’s nice of course to play in the Premier League and feel the atmosphere in the stadium – every time it’s a great feeling. I hope we will have a lot of great moments.”
It is still hard to believe for United fans when they see Schweinsteiger in their famous red shirt. Many would have had the German captain down as a dream signing at the start of the summer, not expecting much to materialise.
However, since his transfer, United supporters have taken to their new ‘Deutscher Fussball Meister’ and are loving every second he is on the pitch.
