Shaw suffered a double broken leg in Man United’s loss to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League and is expected to miss upwards of six months of action.
However, since the incident, Shaw has stayed upbeat and is already focused on his recovery. Louis van Gaal also felt the 20-year-old was in a good state of mind, despite the circumstances.
Young is backing the youngster to make a full recovery and has pledged his support to his teammate. The Englishman told Manutd.com: “Everyone has been in touch with him. I have personally spoken to him quite a bit. As the manager said he’s very positive.
“He’s got to stay that way because obviously it’s a long road to recovery. But he’ll have the medical department looking after and knowing exactly what he needs to do to come back.”
The 30-year-old was surprised with Shaw’s reaction to the injury, as the left-back is not letting it get to him. Young has insisted that everyone at the club is waiting for him to get back.
He added: “Even the day after it happened he was positive and upbeat which I think for a lot of the players and staff was surprising after such a horrific injury, and when he returns to the training ground everyone will be there for him.”
Shaw has a long road to recovery ahead of him but the way he has reacted to the injury is encouraging. The full-back will want to stay focused on getting back to playing football as soon as possible and everyone at United will be wishing him back.
