Bastian Schweinsteiger commands midfield before substitution against Wolfsburg

by Sid Choudhary

Bastian Schweinsteiger was once again commanding in midfield as the Reds triumphed 2-1 over Wolfsburg at Old Trafford.

The German was reinstated to Man United’s starting line up after injuries to both Michael Carrick and Ander Herrera and he didn’t disappoint. Playing against a side who were his title rivals for Bayern Munich last season, Schweinsteiger commanded the midfield and kept United moving forward while he was on the pitch.

The 31-year-old was eventually substituted with just over a quarter of an hour left on the clock and his absence was felt immediately, as United struggled to keep a hold of the ball towards the back end of the game. Despite his display, Schweinsteiger’s night was cut short and with a trip to Arsenal coming up on Sunday, it could be for the best.

United supporters could not get enough of their midfield maestro during the game:

United fans will be hopeful that the 20 minute rest Schweinsteiger got at the end of the match will put him in good steed for the game against Arsenal.

With an extremely tough month ahead, the Reds have a whole host of difficult, important games in the near future. Schweinsteiger’s presence will be crucial during this period, especially if he can replicate his showing from the Champions League.

The World Cup winner was evidently upset with having to come off to be replaced by Phil Jones but three points was the bottom line and the team managed to achieve their goal. His presence in midfield against Arsenal on Sunday could help United extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table.
