Louis van Gaal to give Manchester United players day off ahead of Arsenal clash

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has revealed that he will not pick his team for the Arsenal game this weekend until Saturday.

Man United secured a hard fought win over Wolfsburg on Wednesday night thanks to goals from Juan Mata and Chris Smalling.

It has been a gruelling period for United’s players, who have not had a day off for two weeks.

Van Gaal admitted he will give the players Friday off so they can recover physically in time for the Arsenal game.

“The solution is recovery, recovery, recovery,” van Gaal said.

“That is why it’s so difficult to prepare for the match against Arsenal. We have to see how the evaluation is from my fatigue specialist.”

English teams have historically suffered from a hangover in the Premier League following a Champions League clash and supporters will be hoping this isn’t the case with United on Sunday. United will need to be at their best if they are to take a positive result away from London and van Gaal may look to rotate his personnel as a result.
