Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata put on a sublime performance as the Reds overcame Wolfsburg 2-1 at Old Trafford.
Mata scored Man United’s first goal before laying on an audacious assist for Chris Smalling‘s winner to help his side to their first Champions League win of the season.
The Spaniard started on the right wing once again and continued his incredible form with one of the most impressive individual performances that United have had this season. After winning the penalty for a handball, Mata stepped up to slot the ball into the bottom left corner to score a crucial equaliser. His assist for Smalling’s goal was nothing short of incredible, a back-heeled flick over the back four to play in the centre-back.
United fans loved watching the 27-year-old in action:
Mata goes very unnoticed l, crucial in a lot of our attacks. He's been much better since we signed martial

Mata has been in good form recently and it was encouraging to see him continue that in Europe. It was the ex-Chelsea man’s first Champions League game at Old Trafford for United and he didn’t disappoint.
The Spanish international has brought class to Louis van Gaal‘s midfield and, despite playing in an unfamiliar position, he has made the right wing spot his own. Since playing there towards the business end of last season, Mata has cemented his place in the side and with performances like the one against Wolfsburg, it is easy to see why.
United fans will be hoping that Mata can keep his good run going when their team make the trip to the Emirates Stadium on Sunday. The league leaders could have the chance to extend their lead at the summit and another similar display from Mata could be hugely beneficial.
