Everton striker Romelu Lukaku has admitted he dreams of playing alongside Wayne Rooney.
Lukaku would have played with Manchester United forward Rooney in Duncan Ferguson’s testimonial earlier this year but injury meant the Belgian had to pull out.
Lukaku revealed his admiration for Rooney and his regret at not lining up alongside him.
When asked who he dreams of playing with, the 22-year-old said: ”Wayne Rooney. He really is a good footballer. He’s good in the air and knows where the goal is.
“We’ve often played against each other, and nearly played together during Duncan Ferguson’s testimonial. Unfortunately, I managed to injure myself and had to pull out. I still regret it to this day.”
The comments are bound to increase speculation surrounding Lukaku, who scored twice and made one in Everton’s 3-2 win against West Bromwich Albion earlier this week.
There were murmurs in the summer that United may have been lining up a shock move for the striker but the talk came to nothing. Louis van Gaal instead brought Anthony Martial to Old Trafford and the Frenchman has made a hugely promising start to life at the club.
