France coach Didier Deschamps has been impressed with Anthony Martial’s start at Manchester United but warned the youngster to expect a dip in form.
Martial has been nothing short of superb since his £36m move from Monaco on transfer deadline day.
The Frenchman has registered four goals, including a memorable debut strike against Liverpool, and he was excellent in European clashes against PSV Eindhoven and Wolfsburg.
Deschamps praised Martial and backed him to overcome any tough periods that come his way.
“The potential was there but there were a lot of people who were surprised that he’s been so effective,” Deschamps said.
“But he has that quality and he’s surrounded by good players. It’s good for him because it’s not easy with everything that was said and written about him.
“In terms of potential, he has everything. He’s young so he might have some more difficult periods later. But he’s capable of doing some very good things.
“He did so at Monaco and now he’s doing it at another level with Manchester United so it takes on even more significance. The quality of the player is there anyway.”
Of course, no-one associated with United is expecting Martial’s good run to last forever but he has showed no signs of slowing down. The fact that the youngster is currently outshining Wayne Rooney goes to show just how well he has done. He will be looking to continue his good form against Arsenal this weekend.
