Manchester United’s Donald Love has joined Wigan Athletic on a two-month loan deal.
The young defender had been training with Man United’s first-team this week but Louis van Gaal has seen fit to send him out to League One side Wigan in order for him to gain some valuable first-team experience.
Having developed very well over the last 12 months, this is the next step in Love’s career and should serve him very well.

Aged just 20, Love has time on his hands and successful loan spells at this stage are crucial in the long-term development of a player to make sure they don’t stagnate with non-competitive academy football.
United previously sent Angelo Henriquez and Nick Powell on loan to Wigan, which worked out to varying degrees, but Love will be concentrating on his own opportunities and maximising them as much as he can.
Ex-defender and Wigan player Gary Caldwell is Wigan’s current manager which could play into Love’s hands as he’ll have a strong understanding of what needs to be done to succeed at the top level.
