James says Sergio Romero should start over David De Gea

by Sam Peoples

Former Manchester City goalkeeper David James has claimed Sergio Romero is a better player for Manchester United than David De Gea.

Romero joined Man United this summer on a free transfer and started all the teams games in August. The Argentine kept three clean sheets in a row in the Premier League but lost his place to De Gea once the transfer window closed.

Many feel De Gea is the best goalkeeper in the world and he has continued his brilliant form from last season. The Spaniard was United’s player of the season last campaign and is really proving his worth, with supporters delighted when he signed a new contract.

The 24-year-old was linked with a move to Real Madrid throughout the summer but since the move fell through on deadline day, De Gea has been first choice for United. Despite not keeping as many clean sheets as Romero, De Gea has shown his class on numerous occasions and the vast majority of United fans would prefer to see him in the team over Romero.

It is an interesting claim from James, given Romero’s performance in the defeat to Swansea. The stopper was found out against the Swans and struggled when he was put under any real pressure.

De Gea is almost certain to keep his starting spot as United travel to North London to face Arsenal. The former Atletico Madrid man was on fine form in the same fixture last year and was crucial to United’s win. A repeat performance would be welcomed by supporters, as they hope their club can maintain top spot in the Premier League.
