Former Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed what it was like to be on the receiving end of Sir Alex Ferguson’s infamous ‘hairdryer treatment’.
Ferguson developed a reputation as a strict disciplinarian during his time at Old Trafford and he always let his players know when they had not performed to the required standard.
Ronaldo admitted Ferguson often lost his temper but insisted it helped spur the team on.
“I remember sometimes when we did something bad or we lost some games he kicked the chairs and he kicked the boots, he kicked everything, the waters, the drinks, and he’s so red and said ‘f**k you, you should pass the ball you,” Ronaldo said.
“It was unbelievable but it was good – because we learn.”
A number of players such as David Beckham, Jaap Stam, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Roy Keane felt Ferguson’s wrath at Man United and their relationship with the Scot soured as a result.
However, everything Ferguson did, he did for the team and his relentless pursuit of perfection. It is hard to question his methods given the fact that the 73-year-old won a plethora of trophies at United.
